Britain’s Dirtiest Homes

number 1001

Research reveals the nation’s hate of cleaning and unveils the location of the UK's dirtiest homes

Despite Kim and Aggie showing us how easy cleaning is, in a nationwide survey carried out by 1001, the carpet cleaning and freshening experts, one in ten Brits admit to just cleaning monthly and a very scary 7% only actually bother to clean when people come to visit!

1,001 adults were asked about their cleaning habits and the results reveal that our homes are crying out to be cleaned! It seems motivation to mop is well and truly lacking as 61% would much prefer to pay a cleaner and a third describe cleaning as a horrible chore that they don’t want to do but know they have to!

It seems the worst offenders are those living in Northern Ireland, where a whopping 30% clean once a month or less!

The top five areas in the UK with the dirtiest homes are:

  1. Northern Ireland
  2. Wales
  3. South East
  4. London
  5. Yorkshire and the Humber

And, despite the majority being working women, a huge 75% of females are still predominantly responsible for the cleaning at home, donning a pair of rubber gloves after a long day at the office.

But it is not all doom and gloom when it comes to cleaning; there is a rather odd 7% who actually enjoy cleaning and for 14% it’s a form of exercise! So for those of us who have had one or two mince pies too many this Christmas, it seems the age old New Year’s resolution of losing weight can be kick started with a spot of brisk cleaning after all!
